Shivram Hari Rajguru was born on 24th August 1908 in Khed, Dist. Pune, Maharashtra, India. He was born in middle class Brahmin family. His family’s economic condition was not very good. Since childhood Rajguru suffered a lot on account of poverty. His father died when he was only 6 years old. After the death of father all responsibility of Rajguru and his family was shouldered upon Dinkarrao (Rajguru’s elder brother). Rajguru was very naughty child and he was not interested in his studies. He use to spend his all time in playing with his friends. Due to such reasons Dinkarrao annoyed, scolded and warned Rajguru. On account of this Rajguru left his house and went to Nasik. He was just 12 years old at that time. He had no money when he left house but he continued with his struggle and went to Varanasi.

He started his real journey of education after the death his father in Varanasi. He learned Sanskrit in Varanasi. He loved physical exercise. He was appointed as physical trainer in government school at Varanasi. Rajguru believed in ferociousness than the gentle way for obtaining freedom from British rule. He came in touch/contact with revolutionaries. He joined the movement and became member of Hindustan Socialist Republican Army (HSRA). He was closely associated with Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad and Jatin Das. He was very skilled shooter. Therefore, he was known as Gunman of the party. He used to take part in various revolutionary activities. Saunder had been shot dead by him on 17 December 1928 as a revenge of death of great leader Lala Lajpat Rai. Rajguru was arrested in Pune on 30 September 1929. Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were convicted for murder and sentenced with death penalty on 7 October 1930. All three were hanged in Lahore jail at evening on 23 March 1931 and bodies were burnt under police supervision. Rajguru was cremated at bank of Satluj River in Ferojpur, Punjab. At his martyrdom he was just 23 years old. Now, in his fond memory Khed is renamed as a ‘Rajgurunagar’.

A grand and magnificent salute to great freedom fighter and his memorable reminiscences.
